Section 2 - Basic rules and details
The Main Championship and general details.
Following the success of previous years we once again propose to run a minimum 16 round, season long golf Championship consisting of one or more rounds per month from late March to October. Each round will be played on a Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday Monday. The day will depend on course and tee time availability. Only your best ten scores will count towards the Championship to allow for persons being unavailable to play due to work and other commitments. Please refer to section 4 for further details.
A £40 yearly membership fee will be required from all Members, this will provide a fund for course booking deposits. The membership fee will pay for the golf, dinner and prizes on Finals day in October.
When contacting the courses we initially booked for 16-20 players. In the event of a round being over susbcribed and we are unable to negotiate extra tee times priority will be given to those Members who signed up first on the Society Golfing website.
The Championship will use the standard Stableford scoring system, please see section 3 for further details.
Before each round a Society member will carry out a draw to determine the order of play and the groupings except for the final round when we will go out in reverse Championship order (please see the timekeeping Rules in section 5).
If, on the morning prior to any Society match there is any doubt about the weather or course conditions we will contact the relevant club Pro a minimum of one hour before we are due to tee off. They will make the decision if we can play. If the course is deemed OPEN AND PLAYABLE by the Pro the round WILL go ahead. It is then up to the individual Society members to decide if they wish to play. If the course is closed and we are unable to reschedule for a later date or arrange a suitable alternative the round will be void.
In the event of bad weather causing play to be stopped once the round is started, if the match is abandoned BEFORE all the field have passed the half way point the round will be considered null and void. If the whole field have passed the halfway point and the round cannot be rescheduled the scores will count up to the last hole completed by ALL players. We will apply an average score per hole calculation to estimate the points scored and this estimate will be used to decide the winner.
If an individual player has to withdraw for any reason other than the weather his score will be null and void and he will not receive any handicap adjustment.
Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin competition.
At each round we will have one hole designated as Longest Drive and one designated as Nearest the Pin. These will count toward season long championships, please refer to section 4 for further details.
Tim Aberdeen Shield (Formerly the President's Cup).
In memory of our friend and Society stalward Tim Aberdeen we renamed our knockout cup following his death in 2013. This year, as last, we intend to run this competition along the lines of the "Champions League", please see section 4 for further details.
