Handicap Adjustments

As a friendly society we have our own method of handicap adjustment aimed at weeding out Bandits and allowing fair competition for players of all abilities. After discussing the arrangement it was considered we were too generous with the handicap increases so from this season the maximum increase will be 1 stroke. In addition we have also modified our handicap adjustment method to ensure the adjustments reflect the standard of the course played.

In the past we have used fixed adjustment bands irrespective of the difficulty of the course. From this season we will base the bands on the average score on the day. This COURSE SCRATCH SCORE (or "CSS") will be used to calculate the handicap change bands and will only be known after the game. We will still use the standard Stableford scoring system as we have in the past.

"Course Scratch Score" minus 2 or more points - Gain 1 stroke

"CSS" plus or minus 1 point - Zero handicap change band

"CSS" plus 2-4 points - Docked 1 stroke (3 point band width)

"CSS" plus 5-7 points - Docked 2 strokes (3pt band width)

"CSS" plus 8-9 points - Docked 3 strokes (2pt band width)

"CSS" plus 10-11 points - Docked 4 strokes (2pt band width)

"CSS" plus 12-13 points - Docked 5 strokes (2pt band width)

"CSS" plus 14-15 points - Docked 6 strokes (2pt band width)

And so on, there is no upper limit.

I know it looks a bit complicated at first but I am sure you quickly get used to it.

Stableford Scoring System

Stableford is a scoring system with points allocated according to your position relative to the par score for the hole (nett).

Two or more over par = 0 points

One over par = 1 point

Level Par = 2 points

One under Par = 3 points

Two under Par = 4 points

Three under Par = 5 points
