WW11/16 - Wearside Finals day, Report missing

WW11/15, South Shields, Sunday 10/10/11 (Dave Fletcher)

Well what a blustery day that was, however there was some pretty good scores came of it. It's the first time I've played South Shields & think most would agree it was pretty good for the time of year & I get the feeling it would be great on a still & warm summer's day. Before I list a few shout outs & congrats, can I just say thanks to all of you for making me feel welcome in this my 1st year with the Wearside Wanderers – I think I have now played a round with most of you & always enjoy the banter. So hey 38pts & my 1st win, that took some bloody time – but I was only 1 point ahead of fellow bandits Derek & the two Dave's all who I know are better than the handicap they have & should get them down a shot or two next year, so well done to you guys. Well done also to Rico for the best gross on 85, Davey Watt again for the 2.5m closest to the pin & my friend Tim for the beast of a hit today into the wind for the longest drive. An extra big shout out to Paul Baker for taming the beast Aberdeen & wining the 2011 Presidents Cup on what must be his first society outing playing off 11. On the subject of Bandit's Mr Rooks was crowned king of the the long drives & closest to the pin titles for 2011, with 4 of each in the bag. So here's looking forward to next week & its pretty open up there, with Rico and Paul Baker both on 337pts, Tim in third on 334pts & I myself in fourth on 331pts. So looks like someone other than the Rookster may take it this year?

WW11/13 & 14 - Reports missing

WW11/12 - Catterick, 28/8/11 (Steve Grant)

A welcome return to a course that was in good condition and the weather was on our side, with plenty of sunshine for seven of us from the society and two of my guests. I was partnered in my group with Paul Baker and one of my guests, Alan Welsh. We set off full of determination on the first tee only to be brought back down to earth quickly after. The first 9 holes were a struggle (especially for poor Paul who was still reeling from being beaten on his honeymoon on the pitch and put by his new good lady wife) but all three off us turned it around on the back nine and to my surprise I came in with a winning score of 38 points. I would like to congratulate Tim for just beating Dave Fletcher by 2 inches on the longest drive and for Dave Fletcher, himself, for finally hitting the green this season and claiming nearest to the pin.

WW11/3 to 11 - Reports missing

WW11/2 - Bishop Auckland, Monday 25/4/11 (Tim Aberdeen)

Round 2 of the 2011 Society Championship was held at Bishop Auckland Golf Club on Monday 25th April 2011. We had a good turnout of 13 players and I think that most would have agreed the weather was quite good although a bit chilly at times for the skinny lads like myself. The course itself was in good condition but quite dry in places and the greens were firm plus quick if you were above the hole. I was teamed up with the now well established Society tossers (club that is) who behaved very well except one pitching wedge which I was told was placed towards his bag 50 yards away (NOT ME BY THE WAY!!! IG.). The course played quite tough which reflected in the scores on the day in 3rd place Dave Fletcher with 33 points in 2nd place also with 33 points but only separated by the last 3 holes on the count back Paul Baker and the winner with 36 points myself. Longest drive went to Eddie Harrison although we did see him on one of the grass cutters going round his ball. The nearest to the pin went to one of our new bandits Michael Poulton I was told that he did 3 putt from there in true Society tradition.

WW11/1 - Houghton-le-Spring, Saturday 2/4/11 (Jim Rooks)

As the clocks had gone forward it was announced that the Wearside Wanderers would be gathering for there annual destruction of local golf courses in the North East. The venue for the opening game was Houghton-le-Spring on a lovely Spring day we gathered at the club house for the usual healthy pre-match meal of bacon butties and coffee where the draw was made. With our glorious champion Paul Marshall flying in from Dubai that morning specially to open proceedings on the first the matches and the season were underway. An enjoyable round was had by all with the course in excellent condition, after a competitive 18 holes it was a fine day for the Houghton members. Congratulations to our new society members Dave Fletcher (Houghton member, obviously this is a "specialist course!!", IG.) for the longest drive and Michael Poulton for the nearest the pin on the 15th.
